Copyright Hub Opens for Business

A new online platform is launched to help facilitate licensing of copyrighted works in the UK

UK’s creative sectors joined forces to launch the Copyright Hub pilot – an online platform comprising of a web portal and a collaboration forum – aimed at simplifying registering and licensing of copyrighted work in the UK.

The initial version of the site offers mostly information on various copyright issues, and signposts to the relevant third-party licensing websites. However, the Hub will be rolled out in stages and the additional features, including multimedia content search, a registration system for content creators, and a synchronised license agreement system, are to be introduced later in the year.

When completed, the Hub is intended to be a one-stop-shop for individuals, businesses and the creative sectors involved in the digital copyright exchange.

The idea behind the Hub was first suggested in the 2011 Hargreaves Report on copyright in the UK, before a scheme for a Copyright Hub was formally outlined in Richard Hooper’s and Dr Ros Lynch’s 2012 Copyright Works report.
