TV Channel Brings 12 Jobs To Co. Tyrone

Thirty jobs are to be created across Northern Ireland as an Irish television channel launches internationally next month.

The 30 jobs in the region form part of a total 150 jobs to be created across the island of Ireland.

Twelve roles are expected to be created at IrishTV‘s Northern Ireland headquarters in Donaghmore, Co Tyrone, an additional three jobs will be created in production, presentation and commercial positions in each of the six counties.

Ten people will also be employed across three additional UK offices in Manchester, Liverpool and London and an initial five in the channel’s first US base in Cleveland, Ohio.

From Thursday 1 May 2014, the channel will broadcast across the UK, Ireland and Europe on Satellite and Freesat as well as on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in the US.

Broadcasting 24 hours a day, the all-Ireland channel will feature 50 unique home-produced programmes a week, with original content each night and a weekly county round up.

Founded by Co Mayo entrepreneurs, Pierce O’Reilly and Mairead Ní Mhaoilchiaráin and chaired by London-based Irish multi-millionaire John Griffin, the €15m project will also have an online service available.

Northern Ireland output will be managed by well-known media personality Malachi Cush and will include programming for children as well as Irish, Ulster Scots and fashion.

“IrishTV is going to provide an exciting new platform on which to profile all that is good about visiting, living and working in Northern Ireland and through the ‘County Matters’ shows, the six counties of the north will have the opportunity to showcase themselves to a global audience,” he said.

“Whether you’re from Antrim or Armagh, Cork or Clare, there is at least half an hour’s worth of programming a week bringing your local area to you, wherever you are in the world.

“In Tyrone we have already filmed programmes in Omagh, Dungannon and Donaghmore and have just finished filming a children’s programme, ‘Story-time’, which features three local primary schools – St Patrick’s Dungannon, County Primary Donaghmore and St Patrick’s Donaghmore. We will also soon be filming a new comedy series written by Tyrone playwright Brian McMahon.”
