Can you describe your business?
Heavenly Tasty Organics provide a range of delicious organic and healthy snacks for babies and children. Launched in 2011 my company is now based in Augher and has a growing team who are passionate about what we do. Working with carefully selected partners throughout Europe, we develop and bring to the market wonderfully healthy products which contain superfood ingredients such as Spinach, Kale, coconut milk and ancient grains like amaranth. All of our products contain no added sugars, and are low in natural sugars and salt, to ensure that little ones have a healthy alternative to sugary snacks.
Why did you start your own business?
The inspiration for this business comes from being a parent myself and seeing a need for healthier foods for our children. Initially the business was started as my two older children suffered from serious food allergies and as babies, I struggled to find convenient foods which were suitable for their needs in terms of allergies, and my needs as a busy parent. I’ve always wanted to run my own business. I come from a family business background and always felt that owning my own business was a viable option. It was something I never feared doing and once an idea sets in to your mind as being a good business idea, it will always remain an idea unless you do something about it.
What are the best things about running your own business?
For me personally the best thing is being able to be somewhat flexible with my time. The kids are always my priority and I will always do my best to be there when they need me. Being my own boss means I can be there for them when they are sick, and always have the chance to see the school plays etc. In business terms the best thing is no two days are the same. Yes its very much hard work and your mind is always buzzing with ideas, but I am continually learning new things each day and meeting some amazing new people. I also get to travel sometimes to some beautiful places to meet with our suppliers.
What are the main challenges facing the business?
Like every business we face plenty of challenges, and it has been a steep learning curve at times since starting up. With the business having evolved a lot since it was first started our challenges have changed along the way. I guess for us, in the market we are in, it can be quite competitive at retail level, and our competitors are mostly very well known brands with very large promotional/ advertising budgets. For us, being a small business it can be difficult to compete at times, but we still need to make ourselves heard to consumers.
