Can you describe your business?
My business is an architectural design practice providing a wide range of services including design, 3D visualisation, tender preparation and development appraisals. We are involved in both the domestic and commercial sectors.
Why did you start your own business?
I started my business 16 years ago. Having worked within other practices, i wanted to develop my own ideas and designs to meet market demands. I also wanted to develop other services to bolt on to the design side of the business.
What are the best things about running your own business?
The flexibility and control of being able to manage my own time i would say is the best thing about running my own business.
What are the main challenges facing the business?
The main challenges would be the constant change in regulations and the evolvement of new technologies in recent times. We as a business have to keep up to speed with both of these to be able to advise and direct our clients as to the best way forward for their specific project.
What advice would you give to someone starting a business?
Do your research on the sector you are hoping to enter, assess your competition, do an indepth business plan and most importantly know your margin.

Challenging, exciting and rewarding.
