Business Profile: Core NI

Can you describe your business?

We are a fitness based company who aim to promote positives experiences for people of all ages and teach them how to enjoy and live a healthy active lifestyle. Our main focus is on youth physical development through our CORE Kids program. We take a holistic  approach to coaching and understand the need to develop each child’s mental, physical and emotional well-being.

Why did you start your own business?

It was always something I wanted to do. I had been working on my business part time for over 6 years and in November 2017 I decided to go full time on my own. I needed to take the leap and go for it, so far I’m glad I did.

What are the best things about running your own business?

You get to aim for the lifestyle that you want to live. The only barriers that are stopping you are the ones you place on yourself. I like the freedom of planning and implanting my own programs to help inspire young people to reach their full potential. As my company has developed I have had the opportunity to work and coach some fantastic people in some brilliant locations. The biggest reward is seeing these individuals develop as better athletes and people.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

Choosing the right ideas to run with. I’m still in the early stages of development and have a lot of ideas that could grow my business and help many people at the same time but choosing the right path to take and having the time, finance and right people to help you deliver your vision can be a stumbling block at times. Time management can also be an issue as you feel that you have 101 things to do but can be easily distracted by something of less importance.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business?

Just go for it. If you have an idea and a vision that you feel strongly about then work hard and long at perusing it. Don’t live with the regret of not trying. Acknowledge what can go wrong but focus on what can go right.

Can you describe your experience of running a business in three words or less?

Keep moving forward.
