Can you describe your business?

My professional photography business specialises in wedding and portrait photography. I offer natural and creative wedding and  family portraiture photography influenced by my background in fine art. My aim is to give the customer photographs that capture a special stage in their life and something to pass down the generations.

Why did you start your own business?

I have always been obsessed by photography and was fortunate to get my first job as a news photographer with this very paper! After seven years as staff photographer I went on to start my own photography business to allow me to broaden my horizons and become more creative with my photography, which led me to wedding and portraiture photography. I also opened a studio in Clanabogan and am now in process of opening my second studio in the Lisburn Road in Belfast.

What are the best things about running your own business?

I love having the freedom to be creative and challenge myself. I also love being in charge of my own time schedule and to be able to develop my skills. I recently completed my Masters in Fine Art Photography, which allowed me to work on personal photography  projects alongside running the business.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

I always say that if you are not moving forward then you are going backwards. You always have to be progressing, moving with the times, pushing things forward and thinking of new ideas of how to wow clients. It can be exhausting but rewarding.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business?

Follow your dream! Make a list of pros and cons of going out on your own and if you can see more positives than negatives then do it!

Can you describe your experience of running a business in three words or less?

Challenging. Rewarding. Satisfying.
