Omagh Enterprise Client Jude Browne gets it just right

THE creativeness and talent of Tyrone Herald and UH photographer Jude Browne was recognised at a gala event in Belfast on Thursday when she was presented with a Provincial Merit Award for a picture of young local rugby players.

Organised by the Northern Ireland Press Photographers Association (NIPPA), and sponsored by BT, the competition attracted almost 400 entries from over 40 photographers across the country.

Jude’s picture entitled ‘Dedication and Determination’ was captured during a mini rugby tournament between local rivals Omagh Accies and Clogher Valley.

Jude magnificently captured the determination etched on the young player’s face, giving the photo the tag line, “Try telling young rugby players it’s about the taking part, not the winning!”

Speaking at the event, Alan Lewis, NIPPA chairman said, “We were absolutely delighted with the quantity and calibre of pictures entered in this year’s competition. There is an enormous pool of talent in Northern Ireland and we’re thrilled that through this competition their creativity, skill and passion for photography can be recognised.”

Irish Photographer of the Year Mark Condron and Alex Mead, deputy picture editor at The Mirror,
were the competition’s two judges. “The quality of the work submitted blew me away and made our job particularly tough,” said Alex Mead. “There are countless elements that make a good picture
– the story told, the angle taken, the composition, light and more. So many of the pictures
got it just right. The photographers did an amazing job.”
