Omagh Forum for Rural Associations Host Awards Night

Omagh Forum for Rural Associations 21st annual general meeting and community awards event was held recently in Altamuskin Community Centre. The chairperson of Omagh Forum, George Kerr presented the seven community awards to the successful groups and individuals.

The community awards celebrate the work of rural groups and individuals in the Omagh district and it is an important event in that it acknowledges volunteerism and supports community endeavour.

There are so many hard working groups in the community and the awards reflect this through categories for Local Rural Regeneration, Community/ Village/Town Achievement and also nominations for individual community endeavor.

A special mention was made this year of the Glens Development Group’s project, ‘The Calendar Boys’ calendar, proceeds of which will go to the Ulster Cancer Foundation. Further details of how calendars can be purchased from Omagh Forum office.

Each year Omagh Forum takes their AGM out among their member groups and this year Altamuskin Community Association hosted the event. The event gave the Altamuskin group the chance to showcase their centre and programme of events.

“This is a great networking opportunity for local groups to meet up and find out what is happening in other communities in the district”, said Aidan Bunting of Omagh Forum. The Forum would like to thank all those groups and individuals for attending what was a very successful and enjoyable evening.

Omagh Forum for Rural Associations is the rural support network for the Omagh area, funded by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and supports community and voluntary groups in a number of ways.
