‘Going for Growth: Time for Radical Change’

The Chief Executives’ Club at Queen’s, in partnership with Clarendon Executive, a local leading executive search and selection company, is hosting an influential debate on the burning issue of the day – the local Northern Ireland economy.

‘Going for Growth: Time for Radical Change’ will give local business leaders, policy makers and interested parties an opportunity to debate and make known their views and suggestions on how we can together stimulate growth in our economy. The debate will be chaired by Jim Fitzpatrick, BBC Northern Ireland Business and Economics Editor.

During the evening, pre-recorded film clips will present the views of a number of business leaders across a range of industry sectors. The debate will focus on the role Northern Ireland’s businesses can and must play in the drive for economic recovery and what measures or changes can or should be taken by the NI Assembly to facilitate economic growth.

  • What steps can be taken to stimulate the economy?
  • How can we foster more local entrepreneurship?
  • What needs to be done to better support our small and medium sized businesses in creating additional jobs and driving growth in that sector?
  • What skills do we need in our workforce and what role does our education system play in providing people with the skills and education required?
  • Which aspects of bureaucracy, for example, employment legislation and planning procedures, could perhaps be simplified to better support business growth?

These and other questions relating to our economy and its future growth will be considered and discussed by our eminent panellists and audience.

The debate will take place in Queen’s and Northern Ireland’s new Postgraduate and Executive Education Centre, located in one of Belfast’s historic landmark buildings that has been magnificently restored – Riddel Hall.

Light refreshments will be served in Riddel Hall from 5.30pm for 6.00pm start.
