Small Grants for Volunteering Programme

Applications are invited from local voluntary and community groups wishing to support their volunteers.  The organisation must be independent, established for charitable purposes with signed audited accounts or signed income and expenditure accounts and have a constitution. Grants cannot be made to individuals or to statutory or commercial organisations.

Applications will only be accepted from groups with an annual income in the previous financial year of not more than £100,000. 

Small grants can be spent on:

  • Volunteer expenses (travel, subsistence, childcare, training and protective clothing) at least 50% of the total grant.
  • Project running costs (rent, heat, light, phone, postage, printing and advertising) which are attributable to volunteering within the project.
  • Equipment directly related to volunteering activities (equipment must not account for more than 50% of the total grant applied for).

 Organisations must demonstrate that they:

  • Tackle need or disadvantage, benefit the local community or community of interest.
  • At least 40% of volunteers must be people who are not in paid work.
  • Promote diversity and make volunteering more inclusive

Maximum grant £1,500, this amount may be smaller depending on the number of applications received.  All monies must be spent by March 2013.
