Business In The Community Awards Launched

Business in the Community yesterday launched its 2014 Northern Ireland Impact Awards for responsible businesses – earlier than usual to allow companies more time to prepare their applications. Sponsored by electric Ireland and in association with Ulster Business Magazine, the awards, now in their ninth year, will see firms battle it out for the title of NI Responsible Company of the Year among other more specific accolades in areas such as environmental improvement, biodiversity, community impact and education partner.

Applications can be made at www.bitcni.org.uk until February 21. The gala ceremony will take place in Belfast’s Waterfront hall on June 5. Business in the Community NI chairman Roy Adair said: “These are exciting times for businesses here. The economy is starting to pick up which is a positive sign, yet even through all of the difficulties in recent years companies here have continued to do the right thing and be a force for good in our society.

“I’m continually impressed by the determination of organisations to go beyond the norm to use their business for the benefit of their people, the planet and the places where they operate. “These awards celebrate companies and individuals who realise just how important their actions are to our society and I’d encourage all businesses to put themselves forward for recognition and to inspire other companies by sharing their stories.” Northern Ireland winners of Business in the Community’s UK Responsible Business Awards (Big Ticks), also open for entries until February 21, will be recognised at the June dinner.
