Bright Sparks At South West College And Action Renewables Launch World’s First Electric Car Journey Planner

South West College and green energy firm Action Renewables have launched the world’s first electric car journey planning tool.

It allows users to enter a start point and destination for their journey, and receive suggested routes based on electric vehicle charging facilities.

The tool also gives information on the cost of the journey and CO2 emissions, and was unveiled at the Batterie project closing conference at Titanic Belfast. Northern Ireland has 174 electric vehicle charge points, one of the highest concentrations in the world.

Dr John Harrison, Batterie project manager at South West College, which is based in Omagh, Co Tyrone, said its hub had been developing pilot journeys for electric cars over the last four year.

He added:”We are thrilled to be launching the world’s first dedicated online intermodal journey planning tool.”

Batterie is a European project for sharing information between transport services.
