Academy Stars Shine At Young Enterprise Awards

Entrepreneurs from Omagh Academy are destined for a bright future in business after their Young Enterprise company, Shiny Stars, was named runnerup at the Young Enterprise Northern Ireland Company of the Year.

Shiny Stars created a range of toothbrush kits for adults and children alike, with an aim to improve oral hygiene in the area.

At the prestigious Young Enterprise Awards 2015 held last Thursday (May 7) at Belfast City Hall with support from Ulster University Business School and EY, the Omagh Academy students finished off a year exploring entrepreneurship and developing their business skills after receiving runner-up.

In order to win the award, Shiny Stars had to deliver a presentation and were interviewed by a panel of judges, competing against five other companies.

Young Enterprise Chairman Ciaran Sheehan summed up the feedback from the panel of judges, “The head of one of the largest venture capital companies in Northern Ireland was chair of our judging panel.

He said to me, ‘I’ve seen talent at this year’s competition that would actually be better than some of the professional companies that would come to me to present, looking for large scale multi-million pound investments.’”

Shiny Stars, had the help of local businesswoman Elaine Fyffe-Harper from Omagh Chamber of Commerce to help guide them as a volunteer  business advisor to the group.
