Can you describe your business?
Precious Pumps is a bespoke customisation service of shoes, dresses, headwear and jewellery, specialising in bridal.
Why did you start your own business?
My business started accidentally. I always customised my own shoes , then others started asking me to decorate theirs. Presently I am Ireland’s largest shoe encrusting service, sending shoes all over the world.
What are the best things about running your own business?
I have three boys, so working from home and being self employed allows me to work my hours around them. I love being creative and taking something and making it look completely different. Job satisfaction is very important to me and my high volume of returning customers is proof that I must be doing something right.
What are the main challenges facing the business?
As my work is very time consuming, I am limited to the amount of work I can do. Long hours are part of the package especially during wedding season, as I really don’t like to increase my waiting list.
What advice would you give to someone starting a business?
I would highly recommend that everyone should give it a go. I did the ‘Go for It’ program and found it very helpful. Research your target market, produce a high quality product, listen to your customers, and enjoy your work.
