Can you describe your business?
I specialise in producing highly detailed, photographic images of commercial/corporate premises and architecture, as well as landscapes and even family homes, with a three dimensional, atmospheric feel. My specialist area is in “night” or “dusk” themed photography and capturing the natural and synthetic nuances of light, showcasing the subject at its best and in a unique style.
Why did you start your own business?
I previously ran a Plumbing business for many years but decided to try my hand at something that I really enjoy doing as a way of earning an income. The efforts feel more rewarding when this is the case.
What are the best things about running your own business?
Seeing the emotional impact that the finished product has on my clients. The flexibility and control over my day to day business as well as the new direction and challenges that each job can lead to.
What are the main challenges facing the business?
Due to increasing advancements in software/technology/techniques, my main challenge is having an almost constant learning curve in my field of work, in order to keep bringing my brand to a high standard, yet remaining both creative and competitive.
What advice would you give to someone starting a business?
If you believe you have a viable business plan with a good service, don’t let anyone put you off, put in the hours and do the research. Set aside plenty of time to keep learning as well as producing your craft to be ahead of the game. Go for it, for when it works out for you, the rewards are really worthwhile.
