Chamber of Commerce Elects Its New President

Chief Executive of Omagh Enterprise Company Nicholas O’Shiel has been elected as the new president of Omagh Chamber of Commerce.

A well established figure in promoting business innovation in the town of Omagh, Mr O’Shiel was confirmed in the role at Thursday’s annual general meeting in the Silverbirch Hotel.

He replaces outgoing president and general manager of the North-West News Group, Dominic McClements, who held the position for two consecutive terms.

Speaking at last week’s annual event, Mr McClements expressed his thanks to members of the Chamber of Commerce for their support throughout his busy year in office and wished Nicholas every success during his time as president.

Paying tribute to the outgoing president, Mr O’Shiel said he was honoured to be appointed to lead the chamber in 2016/2017 and he appealed for the business community in the wider Omagh district to support the work of the chamber in trying to develop the local economic environment.

“As a representative group the chamber can offer a network of support for everyone. It is a forum where business owners can share ideas and offer guidance but most importantly the chamber can act as a single voice for everyone.

“It is therefore very important for all of us to encourage others to join the chamber and that we all become proactive in devising business initiatives and programmes that can help everyone in the entire community thrive.”

Thursday’s AGM was followed by Omagh Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Connecting Businesses’ networking event, which was sponsored by Danske Bank, First Trust Bank, Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank.
