Business Profile: PC Hiccups

Can you describe your business?

PC Hiccups is a small computer repairs and sales business that can be found on Market Street in Omagh. PC Hiccups aims to accommodate the needs of the customer by providing them with a quick, affordable and professional service. As well as this, we try to keep our customers up-to-date with the latest accessories for their computers and other gadgets, by offering them in the shop.

Why did you start your own business?

I was made redundant from my last job as my previous employer decided to close his business. Although becoming unemployed was hard for me, at the time I found that it added that extra bit of determination to my plans when I decided to open PC Hiccups.

What are the best things about running your own business?

As well as becoming my own boss, running my own business has allowed me to take pride in my own work and what PC Hiccups has accomplished. I have also found that since I have opened PC Hiccups I have established a much better work/life balance. I am the happiest I have ever been in my job whilst also being able to spend so much more quality time with my wife and children.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

As well as being able to reap the rewards of everything that PC Hiccups is achieving, there are also challenges that come with running the business. Personally, I think the biggest challenges are getting the custom and keeping up with my competitors in order for me to deliver the best possible services I can.

What advice would you give to someone starting their own business?

Set yourself realistic goals and remember you’re only starting out. It is without a doubt that as a business owner you will be faced with challenges and problems within the business. The best advice I can give you is that you need to overcome all challenges and problems that you face in order for your business to succeed. It is difficult but keep going.

Can you describe your experiences of running a business in three words or less?

Challenging but rewarding.
