Business Profile: Total Workout Massage Therapy

Can you describe your business?

My business is sports and remedial massage therapy to help people recover from injury, train better and improve health and well being. There are many benefits to massage but the main benefits are reduces pain, promotes recovery and improves posture and flexibility and relieves stress.

Why did you start your own business?

Myself and Darren Teague always had an interest in this area of sport and when Darren approached me about about starting up a business I jumped at the opportunity, plus working with your best friend is also a bonus.

What are the best things about running your own business?

The best thing about running this particular business is the ability to help people, whilst doing something I truly enjoy. It is also great meeting new people and you quickly realise no two people are the same. I have a passion for sport and this keeps me connected to that in various aspects from footballers, runners and general gym goers, so in a whole it helps you connect locally in a lot of interesting areas. Finally the best thing about this business is contributing to making people better, helping them recover and enhancing their sporting performances.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

I would say some of the main challenges are trying to advertise in a way which attracts people to want to come. At the minute I am relying on word of mouth although that has been working out well for me so far. Another challenge facing this particular business is that a lot of people don’t understand the benefits that lead from massage. Another challenge in this particular area is trying to make people proactive and not reactive towards injury or any pain for example if someone feels a niggle they will originally ignore this until it develops into something more serious.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business?

I would say do it. Don’t be afraid of what could go wrong as the positives can be so rewarding. Definitely find something you’ve an interest in and that you enjoy it’s an old cliche but if you find a job you enjoy you never work a day in your life.

Can you describe your experience of running a business in three words or less?
