Brexit: Data Protection Questionnaire

Does your business transfer personal data across borders?

Many businesses rely on the transfer of personal data across the European Economic Area (EEA) borders, for example, data regarding an individual customer or employee information.

This personal data flow is currently unrestricted because the UK is a European Union (EU) member state. However, if the UK leaves the EU without a formal agreement, new legal restrictions will apply to the transfer of personal data between the countries of the EU, the EEA, and the UK.

With EU exit preparations underway, the Northern Ireland Department for the Economy is inviting businesses to complete a short online questionnaire on data protection and business preparedness.

The questionnaire is completely anonymous, should take no more than five minutes to complete, and would help the Department understand just how prepared local businesses are in terms of data protection in a no-deal Brexit scenario.
